Dave Sheil was born in 1960 in Long Island, New York. His family moved from there to Windham, Maine in the summer of 1967 where he attended school and graduated in 1978. In 1984 he took to the road and traveled the country for about six months with friends, eventually landing in Okeechobee, Florida where he learned survival by attending what he has called the “University of Hunger.” He started a small, one-man sign business and made his living painting signs and murals for several years.
In 1995, Dave accepted Christ as his Savior and married his wife, Paula in 1998. He was ordained through the Southern Baptist Convention in 2005 and became an Associate Pastor at The Crossing Community Church in Fort Pierce, Florida. In 2009, The Crossing sent Dave and Paula to an outreach mission on the beach in Fort Pierce. Initially the outreach was planned to begin in the club house of a mobile home community, but due to damages sustained in hurricanes Jean and Francis, the community no longer existed. This eventually led to beginning the outreach in a new location, a beach-side bar called Archie’s Seabreeze.
Dave has specialized education in life recovery and counseling. He is a State of Florida Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) and was educated under it’s founder Pastor John Glen in the Alpha Series Ministry. Through the facilitating and teaching the Alpha Series, Dave has developed some unique insights and offers these to the public in his collection, Just Trust.
Since the founding of REACH Church at Archie’s, Dave and Paula have opened and operated REACH O.U.T, Recovery and Counseling Center where Dave is Director and Pastoral Counselor. With a staff of volunteers, they have assisted people in overcoming substance abuse and life issues. The center offers not only individual counseling sessions, but also small group Alpha Series studies and AA and Recovery groups.
